Today my friend and I were in a restroom at Olive Garden (gotta love that soup and salad). We walked in behind an older lady, lets call her Pearl. Pearl made a rather loud comment to her dinning companion, lets call her Mildred, who was already occupying a stall. The following is the actual conversation that ensued (trust me, I could not make this stuff up!)
Pearl: "Mildred, are you in here?"
Mildred: Yes, Pearl, I'm here"
Pearl: "Are you o.k.?"
Mildred: "Yes, I'm fine."
Pearl: "Well, I wondered when you left rather quickly, I figured it must be urgent."
Mildred: "Yeah, this doesn't happen very often, but when it happens I have to go right away."
At this moment my friend and I gave a knowing look and both headed for the door.
Once we were far enough away from Pearl and Mildred we got talking about bathroom etiquette. While I was happy that Pearl and Mildred had such a comfortable relationship with eachother I was not looking for them to have that comfortable of a realationship with me.
Why do people talk to stall companions?

It must be a women thing. :-) I don't think I have ever spoke a word to anyone while I was in a stall expect "Hey Im in Here!" when someone tried to come in even though it was locked.
